Plea to restrain Isha Foundation-run school

A PIL has been filed in the Madras High Court to restrain Isha Foundation, by its founder Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev aka Jagadeesh, from running a school called Isha Samskrti at the Velliangiri Foothills in Coimbatore district.

The first bench of acting Chief Justice R K Agrawal and Justice M Sathyanarayanan, before which the PIL from advocate M Vetriselvan of Thambu Chetty Street, came up for hearing on Thursday, ordered notice to the authorities concerned, returnable in two weeks. The petitioner contended that the school was functioning in buildings which had not obtained approval from the authorities concerned.

The school curriculum was not in conformity with the standards laid down by the TN government. The school did not comply with various provisions of the TN Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act. Despite all this, the school has been allowed to function as an unapproved one, the petitioner said.
