Kempegowda fest to be celebrated on June 28, 29

Elected representatives on Saturday decided to celebrate Kempegowda Fest with pomp and glory in the city.

Kempegowda Day is celebrated by BBMP on the same day when Bangalore Karaga is observed. This year, Karaga was observed in April, but Kempegowda Day was celebrated later due to the Assembly election code of conduct which was in force. This year, BBMP is celebrating Kempegowda Day on June 28 and 29.

A sum of Rs 5 crore has been allocated to celebrate Kempegowda Jayanti. This includes Rs 2 lakh per councillor to celebrate at the ward-level.

A senior BJP councillor, who did not wish to be named, said Kempegowda is founder of Bangalore and they have to celebrate his day. “But we can cut cost. Instead of celebrating for two days, it can be reduced to one. We can also cut down on  the ward-level celebrations,” he suggested.
