The municipality administration has decided to create awareness about rainwater harvesting among the public through art and cultural programmes in streets across the district.

Collector S Jayanthi told Express that the ground water level across the district was depleted more than ever, and rainwater harvesting was an ideal plan to percolate water into the ground around residences without letting it go to waste. It would recharge the areas considerably and raise the level of ground water, she said.

Awareness rallies, art and culture programmes had been initiated describing its importance in the district.
