Possessions do not make ego grow

Develop an intense awareness of how your mind works

If you happen to receive a cranky call threatening to assassinate you, what will you do? You will call the police for protection and ring up your friends as well. You may be so perturbed, that you spend a sleepless night. If a person who is not easily upset gets such a call, he may take all the necessary precautionary measures, but remain calm and unflustered. He will not lose any sleep over it. If any enlightened being receives such a cranky call, he will merely thank the would-be assassin for offering to dispatch him to Divinity so readily and then completely stop thinking about it.

So problems are subjective and relative. Our ego shapes situations into “problems”. Many of your problems are created by the “egos” of other people and then passed on to you. Not bothering to take a deep look at these, you think that they are your problems. Develop an intense awareness of how your mind works. Then no situations will present themselves as problems to you.“

Rohini tried once more to complete her question, “But Pujya Guruji, if a problem …..”

Shri Nimishananda Guruji again interrupted her, “First think over and assimilate what we have just discussed. Please, don’t think I’m trying to cut you short or snub you. I’m not. When you contemplate upon this at leisure you will realise that your question has been answered.”

Venkatram added - “Possessions make the ego grow. If somebody buys a new two wheeler, he feels very proud of it and this may even make him behave arrogantly. Why does this happen?”

Shri Nimishananda Guruji said, “Possessions do not make your Ego grow. It is possessiveness that does this. The feeling, “This is mine” inflates the ego. Possessions like two wheelers or four wheelers are the fruits of your own good or bad Karma.

If you allow them to inflate or deflate you Ego, you are generating more Karma for yourself.
