ATM thieves strike again

A masked gang made away with an ATM containing Rs 10.35 lakh belonging to the Bank of Maharashtra, Chandrapura branch in Iggalur on Anekal road in the early hours of Wednesday. The modus operandi was similar to the theft on June 17.

A senior police officer told Express that the surveillance cameras recorded the entry of the gang at 3.01 am. The footage showed two men, who had covered their faces  with a transparent cloth, come in and break the  CCTV cameras.

While one damaged the camera outside the bank, the other broke the camera in the ATM with iron rods.

In the June 17 case, where miscreants made away with an ATM machine on Bagalur main road, they had disabled the CCTV cameras in the ATM as well as the cables. But the cameras in the bank branch recorded the entire crime. Police said other gang members were waiting outside the ATM. They lifted the machine, which was not fixed to the floor, loaded it in to an unidentified vehicle and sped away.
