The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has sent a show cause notice to the Koshy’s Parade Bar and Restaurant on St Mark’s Road over unhygienic conditions.

As per the notice, the kitchen and the store room of Koshy’s have been asked to shut down, until further orders.

On Tuesday afternoon, the BBMP Health Committee Chairman had visited Koshy’s for lunch and on finding the place dingy, the range officer was called in for immediate inspection, a senior BBMP official said.

“The BBMP range official inspected Koshy’s kitchen and store room and found that the place was unhygienic during lunch time. The team also found a cockroach in one of the food containers and hence a show-cause notice with immediate effect to shut down the kitchen was issued and a fine of `25,000 levied on them,” he said.

The complainant’s report has to be submitted within 24 hours to the BBMP and based on the report, further orders will be issued, it is learnt.

The senior official also added that during the months of February and March each year, the business places and eateries are inspected for renewal of trade licenses.

Despite the renewal of trade licences, the range officers of the BBMP have been instructed to inspect business places and establishment on surprise visit or based on complaints received.

When contacted, Prem Koshy, manager, Koshy’s Parade Bar Restaurant, refused to comment on the incident.
