A unique Bharatanatyam duet titled Shivarpanam, was presented by Y G Srilatha and Shruthi N Murthy recently. Presenting rare pieces in the dance form, the duo started with a Pushpanjali which incorporated Dwadasha Ganapathi Namavali Stotram and Maheshwara Sutra of Saint Panini.

This was followed by a beautiful Navaragamalika Pada Varnam Swamiyai azhaitodi vaa sakhiye of Dandayudha Pani Pillai, which depicted a ‘Virahotkhantita Nayika’ aspiring for her Nayaka Lord Shiva and describing the splendour of spring season. The Vachanas of Basavanna too were presented with devotion.

Ragam-Tanam-Pallavi, which is a novel dance piece, stole the show with inspiring and interesting choreography. The Pallavi depicting Tandava-Lasya of Ardhanarishwara Ananda Tandava Shankaram Bhajeham Ardhanareeswaram (Chidaananda…) set to Raga Khamboji, in Khanda Triputa tala was presented with full emphasis on all aspects of music that is alapana, tanam, neraval, trikalam, swara kalpana and tani. The programme ended on a vibrant spirit with a tillana of Lalgudi G Jayaraman in Mohana Kalyani. The music ensemble had Guru Revathi Narasimhan on nattuvangam, Vidwan D S Srivathsa on the vocal and other instrumentalists.

Besides pursuing their academic studies, both Srilatha and Shruthi have given solo, duet and group performances during many festivals and concerts not only in Bangalore but all over Karnataka.
