Mugged woman was drawing money to buy things for baby

Jyothi Uday, the bank manager who was brutally mugged inside an ATM kiosk on Tuesday, is known for her punctuality.

“In fact, she used to go to the bank half an hour before opening time. The couple recently adopted a two-year-old girl and Jyothi was going to work 30 minutes later than usual after that,” a bank official said.

On Tuesday morning, when she was attacked inside the ATM, Jyoti was drawing cash to buy things for the baby, he revealed.

Originally from Kerala, the couple had settled in Bangalore. She had worked at a Corporation Bank branch in Delhi, and was  transferred to the marketing division in Bangalore three years ago.

Husband’s appeal

Uday Kumar, husband of the bank manager, called for 24/7 security at all ATMs.

Speaking to reporters at BGS Hospital, where his wife is now being treated, he said a policeman called him around 11 am and told him about the violent mugging.

Minister for Women and Child Welfare Department Umashree also visited Jyoti at the hospital on Tuesday. “She is feeling better, but could not speak as she is drowsy following a surgery,” Umashree told reporters.
