Three workers of a garment factory, including two women, were killed and 16 injured when a speeding Tempo Traveller, in which they were traveling, toppled on to the other side of the road and was rammed by a speeding truck. The accident occurred on Hosur Road near Attibele on Saturday evening.

Traffic was thrown out of gear nearly two-and-half hours on Hosur Road and around Attibele and Chandapur. The Attibele police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Police have not ruled out a case of drunken driving.

The deceased were identified as Santosh (40), Muniratna (38) and Vinutha (28) . All the injured, aged between 20 and 35, were rushed to a private hospital where their condition is said to be serious. The limbs of a few of the injured were severed in the accident. They all are residents of Uddinapally and Chinnamarapally village in Hosur and employees of Arvind Garments at Yadavanahalli Gate on Chandapur-Anekal road.

Police said the accident occurred around 6.45 pm when the Tempo Traveller (KA 01 C 6443) belonging to Arvind Garments was going towards Hosur to drop off the employees. Driver Murugan, who was allegedly driving in a reckless manner, tried to overtake a truck and lost control. The Tempo Traveller rammed into the median and toppled on to the other side. A ballast-laden truck (KA 51 B 2979) coming from the opposite direction rammed into the vehicle.

Police said the van spun at least three times due to the impact. Police said 30 employees were in the vehicle. Police have registered a case.
