The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) officials forecast heavy rain in the city in the next 48 hours due to upper air circulation in the Bay of Bengal and low pressure along the coast of Andhra Pradesh. The IMD duty officer told Express that the city recorded 16.2 mm rain till 11.30 pm on Thursday.
The BBMP, taking cue from the weatherman, has set up 60 sub-divisions in the city to monitor rain-related issues. An official at the BBMP control room said, “Every two sub-divisions will be monitored by one chief engineer.”
The official said the control rooms are equipped with water pumping machines, axes and generator sets. The civic body will also alert BESCOM to disconnect electric cables when trees are uprooted.
