Depressed, woman jumps off building to death

A 56-year-old woman committed suicide by jumping off the sixth floor of the Karnataka Housing Board apartment building at Surya City near Anekal on Friday.

A 56-year-old woman committed suicide by jumping off the sixth floor of the Karnataka Housing Board apartment building at Surya City near Anekal on Friday. Police said her illness may have prompted her to end her life.

The deceased Rajeshwari Hiremath was the wife of Mallikarjun, a retired employee of a private company. The family hails from Gulbarga and she was staying in a flat at the MIG ‘B’ Block along with their son.

Police said Rajeshwari went to the terrace of the six-storey building around 7.30 am and jumped off. Her husband was taking bath while her son was reading a newspaper at that time. She sustained severe head injuries and multiple fractures and died on the spot.

Rajeshwari, who was suffering from diabetes and other health problems, was reportedly depressed over this. “A week ago, she was bitten by a dog and had also lost hope in life, ”police said. In his statement to the police, her husband said she had lost mental balance as she was upset about her health and that it could have prompted her to end her life. Hebbagodi police are investigating the incident.
