When dreams come true

All of 19, Bangalore model Elixir Nahar has already made a mark in the fashion world. A childhood dream of sorts, Nahar’s modelling career took off after she won Prasad Bidapa’s annual model hunt two years back. Since then she has worked with photographers like Haider Khan and Tarunn Solanki and designers like Manish Malhotra, Suneet Varma and Sanchita. She has also walked the ramp for the Colombo Fashion Week.

But modelling is not her only passion. Currently pursuing a course in journalism at Mount Carmel College, Nahar dreams of becoming an editor of a leading fashion magazine some day.

But juggling academics and modelling is no cakewalk for this teenager.

“It’s challenging in the sense that you have to go that extra mile to take care of your body and skin. But it’s also a big motivating factor for me,” she says.

For this young model, the most challenging projects are the fashion weeks.“You have to work for long hours and get hardly any time to sleep. But I’m not complaining one bit. I love my job,” she says.

Favourite designers: Indian designers like Sabyasachi, Tarun Tahilliani and Manish Malhotra make the most exquisite Indian clothing.

On a bad hair day: I just tie my hair up in a high top knot, which suits my long face. Otherwise a loose side plait is my quick fix.

Personal style: My style is high street. I try to wear looks which can be transformed from day to night. I think my style is quite grungy but feminine. I love monochrome and hate floral prints. Currently, there are a pair of black combat boots I can’t live without. They make almost anything look edgy.

Favourite shopping hangouts: Forever 21 and Zara in India. Steve Madden has nice collections as well. The Collective is my favourite store for accessories.

Favourite accessories: My black Armani handbag and my various phone covers. But otherwise I have a couple of neck pieces from Aldo and Promod which I like to mix and match.

Wardrobe must-haves: Black shorts, a crisp well fitted white shirt, a denim jacket, tan-coloured shoes and a classy watch.

Fashion pet peeves: I hate transparent bra straps, ill fitted clothes and the wrong lingerie under clothes.
