Political party members pay tribute to EVR Periyar on birth anniversary

Cadres from various political parties paid their respects to the late EVR Periyar on his 135th birth anniversary by garlanding his statue and portraits in parts of the district on Tuesday.

Cadres from various political parties paid their respects to the late EVR Periyar on his 135th birth anniversary by garlanding his statue and portraits in parts of the district on Tuesday.

On behalf of the AIADMK party members headed by government chief whip R Manoharan and presidium chairman Vellamandi Natarajan paid floral tribute. M Paranjothi, MLA, Mayor A Jaya, deputy mayor Asick Meera, Corporation zonal presidents Srinivasan, Gnanasekar, Manohar, Latha and AP Krishnamoorthy, M Anbazhagan garlanded the statue at Central bus stand.

The DMK cadre led by district secretary K N Nehru garlanded the Periyar statue at Central Bus stand. The party’s city secretary M Anbazhagan and former MLAs Anbil Periyasamy and KN Sekaran were also present.

The cadre of Dravidar Kazhagam headed by district president M Sekar and MDMK cadre including Vellamandi Somu led by district secretary Malar Mannan paid their respect.

Cadres from the Communist Party of India, DMDK, All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi, Viduthalai Chiruthalai Katchi, Puthiya Tamilagam also paid their respects to the late leader.

In Pudukkottai, cadre of the Dravidar Kazhagam gathered at the district office of the outfit under the leadership of M Arivozhi and garlanded his statue. The DK cadre raised slogans about the service of the departed leader to the society and underlined that his service was  the need of the hour.

The DK cadre hoisted the outfit flag in 12 places including Pitchathanpatti, Machuvadi and Gandhi Nagar. The departed leader’s photo and books were provided to school students at Rajagopalapuram and Gandhi Nagar.
