President to grace pondy university convocation

President Pranab Mukherjee will address the 23rd convocation of Pondicherry University on September 25 and hand over degree certificates and medals to graduates of several disciplines in the University and affiliated colleges.

This is Mukherjee’s first visit to Puducherry after he became the President, said Chandra Krishnamurthy, Vice Chancellor of the University. The University will be conferring 10,899 bachelor’s degrees, 2,946 master’s degrees, 293 MPhils, 130 PhDs, 260 diplomas, 72 certificate courses and 206 gold medals, she said and added that 3,558 master’s degrees, 54 bachelor’s degrees and nine diplomas will be conferred through the distance education mode.

The Lieutenant Governor of the UT and Chief Rector of Pondicherry University Virendra Kataria, Chief Minister N Rangasamy, Union Minister of State for PMO, public grievances and pensions V Narayanasamy and Rajya Sabha member P Kannan will be the guests of honour in the convocation.

Previous presidents R Venkataraman and APJ Abdul Kalam also visited the University, she said. The President will visit Sri Aurobindo Ashram and interact with the students of Sri Aurobindo International School.
