Now, Read Vernacular Books Online

BANGALORE: Lovers of e-books wanting to read vernacular language works can now do so with ease with a website being launched on Wednesday by Pustaka Digital Media. According to the company, www.pustaka.co.in is India’s first e-book selling and lending portal for vernacular language books.

Initially, around 150 titles from Tamil, Kannada and Telugu language authors will be available for sale or rent. A bigger project to digitise Indian language books by 2020 is being planned by the company as well.

“The website will provide a new experience to Indian language book readers with rich mobile content. Most native language books are not available as e-books, which is preferred by the young generation. We aim to bridge this gap. By 2020, our aim is to have a few lakh books in digital format,” said Nivetha, CEO, Pustaka Digital Media, in a statement.

Some of the authors featured on the site are Indira Soundarrajan, Pattukottai Prabhakar, Yandamoori Veerendranath, Neela Padmanabhan, Devibala, Rajesh Kumar, K T Gatti and others. Some of the more popular books on offer include Tulasi, Tulasidala, Aindhu Vazhi Moondru Vaasal, Khajurao and others.
