Ugadi ended on a tragic note for three members of a family, including a nine-year-old boy, when a speeding car mowed them as they were returning from dinner at a relative’s home.

The family was returning home from Chikkanahalli, when a speeding Maruti Swift car (KA 48 6062), hit them at Byrnayakanahalli  around 7.45 pm.

The impact was such that all three fell around 5-6 ft away.  The car went further and hit another two-wheeler rider, Nagaraj (35), before stopping.

“The car was being driven rashly. The family was walking on the side of the road when the vehicle hit them. It did not run over them. They died of head injuries,” said police officials at Thyamagondlu police station. The deceased have been identified as Venkatesh (35), his wife Hema (30) and their son Srinivas (9). Nagaraj sustained injuries on his leg and is undergoing treatment in a hospital.

The private car, owned by one Ramakrishna, was abandoned by the driver. A case has been registered and police are on the lookout for Ramakrishna, who they assume was driving the car.
