Rebel Star Returns, Will Hit Campaign Trail for Nilekani

Actor-turned-politician and Housing Minister M H Ambareesh on Friday returned from Singapore, where he had been undergoing treatment since March 1.

At a press conference here, he said he would campaign for Congress’ Bangalore South candidate Nandan Nilekani. He described Nilekani’s entry into politics as an “eye-opener”. Ambareesh also expressed desire to tour Mandya and seek support for party candidate Ramya. He played down the supposed ‘groupism’ in Mandya District Congress Committee and said it would have no impact on the party’s prospects in the constituency.

However, his differences with Ramya were evident when he said she had “not paid heed to his advice” to meet every villager in person, preferring instead to reach out through social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. “This doesn’t work with the voters in Mandya.”

Saying he has “recovered fully”, Ambareesh thanked his well-wishers, especially Tamil superstar Rajnikanth, on whose advice he had flown to Singapore.

He also vowed to change his lifestyle and become more disciplined to maintain his health.
