Transport utility BMTC is reportedly considering starting night services on certain sectors based on an online petition started on the site change.org by petitioner Shashank.

The petition asked the BMTC to start operating buses at least till midnight keeping in mind that the deadlines for eateries on most days is 11.30 pm and 1 am on Fridays and Saturdays.

The petitioner said in the absence of bus services, travellers were being forced to shell out exorbitant auto fares. The signature campaign had garnered close to 12,700 supporters by Tuesday night. Shashank said it was put before the BMTC MD Anjum Parvez who agreed to increase services if there is demand.

Accordingly, the petitioner is now collecting route information from people who want to use night services so that it can be presented to the BMTC. .

Parvez could not be reached for comment on Tuesday, but officials said a few services (around 70 and some Volvo routes) have been operational for some time now during the night. However, the number is quite small and does not link all parts of the city, they said.

Those interested can sign the petition or update route details at https://www.change.org/en-IN/petitions/extend-bus-service-till-midnight-in-bangalore.
