Upparpet police on Tuesday arrested Girinagar Corporator H S Lalitha who was allegedly caught by an apparel shop staff for stealing clothes.
According to the police, the incident occurred at 4.30 pm when Lalitha had gone to Ashok Apparels in Sukh Sagar Mall near Tribhuvan theatre in Gandhinagar.
On the pretext of trial, she took two tops and went inside the trial room. She returned with only one saying that she did not like both. She repeated the same for five times.
Meanwhile, the the staff of the mall found that some tops taken by her for trial were missing. They also remembered that she had visited about two weeks ago and even then two tops were missing.
The shop owner Ashok, who grew suspicious over the behaviour of Lalitha, asked his wife to check. Five tops were found inside her salwar and she was taken to the police station.
Based on Ashok’s complaint, Lalitha was arrested and produced before a Magistrate.
She has been remanded in judicial custody and is lodeged in Parappana Agrahara Central Jail.
The police are investigating the case and are questioning her family members in this connection.
