On the eve of International Parental Alienation Day which falls on Friday, city-based NGO Child Rights Initiative for Shared Parenting  urged the government to declare parental alienation as a criminal offence.

The day is celebrated to highlight the horrors of parental alienation, often caused by domestic conflicts, wherein the child is forced to take the side of either the mother or father.

According to scientists, children suffering from this syndrome often tend to drop out of school, commit crimes or kill themselves.
