Let the Aviator in You Take Wings

Living up to the city’s much talked-about image as the Aviation Capital of India, the Royal Orchid Resort and Convention Centre in Yelahanka is organising a 35-day summer camp for children with a difference.

Powered by Funlab, the unique Science and Technology Summer Special Camp, beginning from April 25, will see some experts in aero-modelling undertaking workshops in plane-making.

Debajani B Mohapatra, communication manager from Royal Orchid, told City Express that the summer camp theme has been designed to increase the scientific temper among the students. “There are hundreds of camps in the city, but we wanted to stay closer to an idea Bangalore has been known for decades. Aviation topped our list and the camp will also host a series of fun-filled activities, in addition to aero-modelling. We have an equally interesting segment for robotics as well,” says Debajani.

Targetted for age groups between seven and 15 years, the camp schedule is being split into three categories. The one-day camp on weekdays is for seven hours, the two-day camp on weekends for 14 hours and the 10-day camp is for two-weeks.

“We are roping in some experts from the aviation field to explain the features of aero-modelling. It is important that the children get a strong foundation in learning the basics of aerodynamics. We are lining up different models to ensure that the children get to make aeroplanes that have varied features,” says Debajani.

During the camp, children will be taught to build robots and use a software to plan, test and modify sequences of instructions from a variety of real life robotic behaviors.

Children will also be exposed to the pattern of gathering data and later analyse them based on sensors and data logging features.

Experiments in electronics, physics and computers are other features of the camp.
