‘Parents Shouldn’t Be Burdened’

BANGALORE: Private school associations seem to be divided over the issue of hiking fees following the recent circular by police on mandatory installation of CCTV cameras.
The Karnataka Unaided Schools Managements’ Association (KUSMA) has said it is not in favour of burdening the parents with a hike in fees. An official communication from the association urged private unaided schools not to charge parents for installing CCTVs. Instead, it asked them to “spend from their built-up financial reserves”.
The communication said the association has received proposals from several schools to increase fees. “KUSMA is of the opinion that most schools should be able to conveniently spend from the reserves accumulated by them.”
However, it said a small number of schools that do not have any such reserve could charge the parents. But they need to give at least three months’ time to the parents, KUSMA noted, saying it will communicate this to all the schools.
It may be recalled that Karnataka Private Schools’ Joint Action Committee had announced its intent to hike the fees in order to implement the recent police guidelines to ensure the safety of children.
