BANGALORE: Dance and a social cause come together on a stage this Friday, as Rhythmotion, in association with Alliance Française de Bangalore, presents Silent Killer - a fundraising event in aid of children affected by HIV/AIDS. The proceeds of the event will go to Milana, a city-based family support group for people affected by HIV/AIDS.

A contemporary dance production, including the premiere of the dance performance Together, a reprise of My Name is Nisha and For Ever (a dance video), will be staged as part of the event. Together is choreographed by Croatian choreographer and dancer Maja Drobac in collaboration with Indian classical and contemporary dancers Chitra Arvind and Seshadri Iyengar.

Chitra Arvind, who is also the founder of Rhythmotion, says, “Silent Killer is a movement that we started in 2009. Dance performances made under the name are inspired by true stories told by the protégés of Milana.”

The dancer hopes to create awareness among the audience, including children, about people with HIV/AIDS. “My colleague Maja has worked with children affected by the disease, while Sheshadri has met many with the condition. I, on the other hand, have never been actively involved in the cause. As a team, we reflect the kind of people the society is made of, and I think we would be able to strike a chord with the audience,” she further says.

The dancer shares that when she told her children that others kids affected by HIV/AIDS would be coming to watch the performance, they had said, “Would we have to sit near them?”

“On one hand, I was happy that they knew such a condition exists. I also realised that they too need some sensitisation on the subject,” she says.

“The performances will be done in an artistic way. We will portray the social issue, the stigma it causes and the difficulties experienced by the affected people, without going into how the disease is caused. We want the kids in the audience to get what we are trying to say,” Chitra adds.

She goes on to say that Alliance Francaise agreed to stage the event on their premises free of cost. The event will be held at 7 pm on July 25.
