Dissension Over Ugrappa's Candidature Delays Congress List

BANGALORE: The turf war between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and KPCC president G Parameshwara is said to have come in the way of finalising Congress’ candidates for the Legislative Council election.

According to sources, the party high command is in a quandary as Siddaramaiah and Parameshwara are yet to agree on the candidature of V S Ugrappa, who is said to be backed by the Chief Minister.

Congress, which has 121 members in the Legislative Assembly, can win four seats on its own strength. The Opposition BJP and the JD(S) are fielding one candidate each and are supporting an independent candidate.

The sources said the party high command has cleared the names of Parameshwara, H M Revanna and Rani Sathish for now.

Parameshwara is said to be batting for a Christian candidate since the party had ignored the community in the recently held Lok Sabha elections. Ugrappa, a good orator, is perceived to be capable of defending the government in the House dominated by members from the Opposition.
