Conference on Well-being, Design at IISc

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) will host an Indo-Dutch conference on ‘Design for Sustainable Well-being and Empowerment’ at its J N Tata Auditorium from Thursday to Saturday.

BANGALORE: The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) will host an Indo-Dutch conference on ‘Design for Sustainable Well-being and Empowerment’ at its J N Tata Auditorium from Thursday to Saturday.

Padma Vibhushan Prof Arcot Ramachandran, Chairman of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and honorary fellow at IISc, will inaugurate the conference.

Prof Anurag Kumar, Divisional Chairman, IISc, will preside over the inaugural event.

Anil Gupta from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and founder of Honey Bee Network, will deliver the keynote address on fostering collaborations between grassroots innovators and design engineers for sustainable innovations. Dr Devi Shetty, founder of Narayana Hrudayalaya, will talk on innovations that can result in affordable healthcare.

Lectures will also be held on whether everyday technologies can be used to monitor health in Primary Health Centres. Students will talk on the loss of local architecture techniques in rural areas, whether organic cotton can replace for Bt cotton, management of household organic waste in urban areas, empowering rural women through tulasi bead making, and the effect of light on people in the IT industry.
