Missing BMTC Bus Found Abandoned in Andhra Pradesh

BANGALORE: Unidentified miscreants allegedly escaped with a BMTC bus from Majestic bus stand on Saturday night. The bus was found abandoned on the Kurnool highway in Andhra Pradesh on Monday morning.

The police suspect some BMTC staffer is behind the theft.

The bus, belonging to BMTC’s 35th depot at Seegehalli, plied between Kengeri and Majestic. It was parked at the bus stand on the service road at 10.30 pm and driver Ramesh and conductor Sangappa Basavaiah had gone for dinner.

On their return, the duo found the bus missing. When they did not find it, they alerted the depot manager, who then filed a case with the Upparpet police.

On Monday morning, a BMTC driver, who had gone to Hyderabad on some personal work, was returning to the city in a car and he called the BMTC control room after noticing an abandoned bus near Dronachalam check-post on the Kurnool highway.

Based on the details given by the driver, it was found that the bus he found was the missing BMTC bus, the police said.

A police team along with BMTC officials rushed to the spot and the bus was brought back in the evening, the police said.

Previous Cases

On March 28, unidentified miscreants drove away a BMTC bus (KA-02-F-430) plying between Majestic and Marathahalli (Route No 336) from Majestic and it was found abandoned near Hoskote government hospital next day.

Earlier, in December 2009, two such incidents were reported in a week.
