Police Rescue Kidnapped Trader

BANGALORE: Banashankari police on Monday said they have rescued a 35-year-old businessman who was kidnapped by three men.

They identified the kidnappers as Dawood Khan(21), Shoaib Khan (19), and Syed Suhail(23), who are residents of Kulumepalya in Amruthnagar.

Police also recovered `2.69 lakh, a debit card, a mobile phone and an auto from them.

The police said on Friday night, Hrithwik Raj, a resident of Banashankari, had gone for a walk near Banashankari bus station and did not return.

 The next day, Raj, who runs a hardware shop, sent a text message to his family asking them contact the police.

Growing suspicious, his family informed the police on Saturday evening and the officials found that Raj was locked in a house in Kammanahalli near Lingarajapuram. The police raided the house and rescued Raj after arresting the accused.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Raj was kidnapped by the gang in an auto rickshaw and was taken to an ATM kiosk.

He was forced to withdraw `14,000. When the accused learnt he had more money in his account, they demanded  that he sign a cheque for `2.55 lakh.

Raj always carried a cheque book with him, the police added.
