Ex-Minister Questions VTU V-C's Appointment

Former minister C T Ravi on Tuesday questioned the appointment of Dr H Maheshappa as the Vice-Chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University for a second consecutive term.

BANGALORE: Former minister C T Ravi on Tuesday questioned the appointment of Dr H Maheshappa as the Vice-Chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University for a second consecutive term.

Addressing reporters at an event organised by BJP Yuva Morcha on Wednesday, Ravi said, “When his term is ending on June 29, the Governor should think ethically before taking any decisions. He must answer the questions on the appointment of a person who is facing several allegations”.

Acknowledging the Governor’s constitutional  powers, Ravi demanded to know the grounds  on which the search committee recommended a person with a ‘controversial’ academic record for the post. BJP MLAs will raise the issue in the ongoing session, he added.

‘Inquiry Report Before Govt’

On Chief Minister Siddaramaiah allegedly recommending people facing cases and inquiries for key posts, Ravi said: “I got to know through media that the CM had recommended former BU registrar R K Somashekar for the same post at Mysore University. When I was the minister, there was pressure to appoint him as registrar”. Ravi claimed that following allegations against Somashekar, he recommended an inquiry and said the inquiry report is before the government.
