A techie, on his way from Electronics City to Bommanahalli, was waylaid by ‘supporters’ of an autorickshaw driver who robbed him of Rs 55,000 in cash and his mobile phone.

According to police, Alok Upadhye had an altercation with auto driver Anand when the auto bumped into his car near the Bommanahalli outpost. Several people gathered at the spot to solve the issue and finally, with the support of the public, Alok was able to get away.

Anand, who was unhappy with how the incident had turned out, followed Alok and stopped him again at a busy junction in Bommanahalli. Here too, the public came out to take sides while Alok attempted to assert that the fault was not his and that he had been allowed to go away earlier.

Three of the people who had gathered at the spot, however, decided to make hay and, in the heat of the moment, beat up Alok and escaped with Rs 55,000 and a mobile phone.

After Alok filed a complaint at the Bommanahalli outpost, Anand was taken into custody. On questioning, he claimed that he did not know the three people who had beaten Alok.
