Slum Dwellers Around Lake to be Shifted

Slum dwellers around Puttenahalli Lake in JP Nagar will be shifted to temporary residential sheds to be built by the Slum Clearance Board.

BANGALORE: Slum dwellers around Puttenahalli Lake in JP Nagar will be shifted to temporary residential sheds to be built by the Slum Clearance Board.

In view of the efforts by the Upalokayukta to clear encroachments around the lake, the Board on Wednesday agreed to construct the dwellings. The Bangalore South tahsildar will hand over two acres and 24 guntas in Betadasanapura for the sheds by Monday.

The Board executive engineer submitted that slum dwellers around the lake have agreed to shift to the new site. The Board will first construct temporary sheds with solid cement walls and galvanised iron roofs. The sheds will also have electricity and water supply. The board has submitted an estimate of the funds required and the BBMP has already deposited the amount.

The shelters are expected to be set up by the end of June. Permanent houses will be constructed later, Upalokayukta Justice Subhash B Adi said.
