BANGALORE: Around 30 cobra eggs, recovered by Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) wildlife volunteers, hatched on Saturday. The eggs were recovered from a construction site near Magadi Road about two months ago.

Akshay Kumar, a wildlife volunteer attached to the BBMP West Zone, told Express that the Palike head office got a call about the snake eggs being spotted. Later, a wildlife rescuer was directed to attend the call.

“About 30 eggs were recovered on March 19. They were taken to an incubation centre at Vijayanagar. Nearly two months later, all the eggs have hatched and the snakes will be released in a conducive habitat soon,” said Kumar.

BBMP Wildlife Adviser Sharath Babu said that calls pertaining to snakes have been on the rise during the pre-monsoon days. The BBMP has also alerted residents not to try and catch the snakes by themselves.
