Gusty Winds Uproot Trees, More Rain Predicted

Powerful winds accompanied by rainfall on Wednesday evening uprooted more than 40 trees across the city, causing power outages, BBMP and BESCOM officials said.

BANGALORE: Powerful winds accompanied by rainfall on Wednesday evening uprooted more than 40 trees across the city, causing power outages, BBMP and BESCOM officials said.

Most of the tree falls were reported in the BBMP South region, especially in Hanumanthnagar, Girinagar, Thyagarajanagar, Kathriguppe and Chamarajpet. A tree fell on a car near Chennammanakere telephone exchange, damaging it, officials said. BESCOM received as many as 4,301 complaints till 9 pm on Wednesday.

 Of them, more than 1,800 complaints came from Jayanagar, Koramangala and H S R Layout divisions. There were more than 900 complaints of power outages from Rajajinagar, Rajarajeshwarinagar and Kengeri as well.

Meanwhile, Meteorological Department officials said the city can expect rain/thundershowers towards evening in the next 36 hours and that the minimum temperature could drop to as low as 20 degree Celsius.
