BANGALORE: Two unidentified men, who came on a bike, barged into the house of a textile merchant on the pretext of buying saris and robbed him on Friday night. The incident was reported in Kodigehalli police limits and the miscreants escaped with `1.3 lakh and more than 100 saris.

The police said the incident took place around 10.45 pm when the victim Santosh Kumar (22), a native of Tamil Nadu, was alone in his house at Lottegollahalli near Kodigehalli while his father in-law had gone to Dharmavaram on some personal work. Kumar, who used to sell saris by going door to door, returned home around 10.30 pm.

The two men, who were standing in front of his house, told him they had come to buy saris. Kumar asked them to come in the morning as it was too late. The duo agreed and asked for drinking water.

As Kumar entered the kitchen to fetch water the duo followed him and tied his hands and stuffed a piece of cloth in to his mouth. They then robbed `1.3 lakh, silk saris worth `5 lakh and other valuables before fleeing the scene.

After a while Kumar managed to untie himself and alerted neighbours, who then helped him to approach the police.

Kodigehalli police, who registered a case in this connection, suspect that known people are behind the crime and they planned the robbery well in advance.
