Garbage Processing Unit in Gorur Opposed

BENGALURU: “We don’t want another Mandur to happen and suffer like Mandur residents with various health ailments,” said Shankrappa, Solur GP member. Villagers are protesting against the setting up of a garbage processing unit at Gorur that comes under Solur GP limits.

The proposed garbage processing unit on 45 acres at Gorur is located at Magadi taluk of Ramanagar district. On Friday, Rural and Panchayat Raj Minister H K Patil, Revenue Minister Mahadeva Prasad, MLC H M Revanna visited the village and assured the villagers that the processing unit will not come up here, Shankrappa told Express. He added the area is not just Kumudavathi Catchment Area, but is from where Kumudavathi River starts. The state government has spent `48 lakh to rejuvenate the Kumudavati river. Water from here goes to Thippagondanahalli from where water is supplied to Bangalore, he said.

“We have already seen what happened to Mandur, Mavallipura. If a unit is set up here, we will also have to suffer,” he said. There is bande mutt hostel manychildren are studying at places like Ranganath temple. “The waste unit will affect these places too,” he added. District Minister Ramalinga Reddy said it is a processing unit and not a dumping yard.
