BENGALURU: A 28-year-old, in a bid to threaten her husband, poured petrol on herself and killed herself.
The deceased, Jayalakshmi, wife of an auto driver, had demanded money from him to lend to her brother.
When her husband Marichikke Gowda refused, she ran to the auto rickshaw parked outside, took the petrol bottle he kept for emergencies and poured it on herself.
However, she did not realise that a lit lamp had been kept nearby and she was immediately engulfed in flames. According to the police, some petrol had fallen on the lamp when she was pouring it on herself. Her husband, who tried to save her also suffered from burn injuries while trying to save her. She died and he is battling for life in Victoria Hospital, police said.
A case has been registered in Kamakshipalya police station limits and investigation is on.
