DIY Egg Shell Mosaic

DIY Egg Shell Mosaic

BENGALURU: This week we are making earrings using egg shell mosaic technique. The same technique can be used to decorate boxes or any item of your choice.

Things you need

  •      Egg shells
  •      Glue
  •      Water colour/ alcohol ink
  •      packaging material
  •      jump rings
  •      hook

Step 1

Soak egg shells in water over night. This is done so that the membrane can be removed. If the membrane is not removed then the shells wont stick to the surface properly After 24 hours, take the shells out of water, remove the membrane. And let them dry completely. The best thing would be to let them dry for a day.

Step 2

Cut the packaging material in your desired shape. I have cut long rectangles. I have also cut several sheets so that it can be glued together to form a thick base.

Step3

To create a pattern, I apply glue diagonally. On the portion where glue is applied, keep a piece of egg shell and press it tightly. The brittle egg shell will break, thus forming a mosaic pattern.

Step4

To create different patterns, I powdered a few egg shell pieces using a mortar and pestle. Apply a generous amount of glue on the remaining portion and put the powder over it. Let this dry completely for at least a few hours.

Step5

Once the egg shells dry, colour using diluted water colours. For best results, mix colours. Let this dry completely and apply two coats of modpodge.

Step6

After it dries, poke holes so as to pass jump rings through it. Then pass a hook through it and you have lovely DIY earrings.
