Music And Dance Fest Begins on Friday

Bharatnatyam, Kathak and Odissi performances will be staged at ADA Rangamandira this weekend

BENGALURU: The 15th annual Kala Nadam Festival, a mega event for classical music and dance, will be organised by Narthan Academy for Dance and Music (NADAM) from November 7-9 at ADA Ranga Mandira.

Launched by Nandini Mehta and K Muralimohan in 1999, NADAM has organised lecture demonstrations and performances in India, USA, Switzerland, France and the Middle East. Under the aegis of Kala Nadam, they have featured artistes like Padmabhushan R K Srikantan, Maya Rao, Padmashree Leela Samson, Praveen Godkhindi, Ashit Desai, Hema Desai and Priyadarshini Govind.

This edition will see the launch of Ashish Khokar’s annual dance magazine Attendance-2014-Telugu Traditions by Chiranjiv Singh, former Ambassador of India to UNESCO, at 6 pm on Friday. Vimala Rangachar, president, Natya Institute of Kathak and Choreography will also be present.

At 6.45 pm, Jaikishore Mosalikanti and Padmavani Jaikishore will give a Kuchipudi performance, and at 7.25 pm, a demonstration titled Kathak Through The Ages will be given by Natya Institute of Kathak and Choreography.

Dharamshi Bhai Shah, director, Kalaskhetra, Bhavnagar, will be the chief guest on Saturday. There will be a Bharatanatyam recital by Janaki Rangarajan from Australia at 6 pm, followed by a Kathak performance by Nandini K Mehta and K Murali Mohan.  City-based Raadha Kalpa Dance Company will stage a Bharatnatyam recital at 7.30 pm.

At 6 pm on Sunday, Divya Devaguptapu from California will perform Bharatanatyam and later, there will be Kathak by NADAM ensemble including Smitha Srinivasan, Poorna Acharya, Samanvitha Sharma, Arpita Banerjee, Sowmya Ravi, Swati Nair, Malavika Sreepad, Thanvi L, Vidhyashree Sudarshan, Jinal Rupani, Manasa Shastry and Heena Patel.

At 7.30 pm, there will be a demonstration titled Neo-classical Innovation in Odissi Dance by Srjan, choreographed by Ratikant Mohapatra from Bhuvaneshwar.It’s a free event for all. For more information, call 98802-01608 or visit www.nadam.in.
