3 Cases of Rape Reported in 1 Week

BENGALURU: Three rape cases were lodged at various police stations in the city over the last one week.

In Vidyaranyapura, a 19-year-old student has alleged that her father raped her multiple times when she was 14. About a week ago, her parents had filed a complaint stating that she was kidnapped by a relative, identified as Amit Singh, a software engineer.

Police had traced the two through their mobile phones, but the girl said that she went of her own accord. Hence, the case was closed.

However, a few days after the incident, she filed a complaint against her father, alleging that he had raped her multiple times in 2008-09 when she was 14 years old.The victim alleged that her mother knew of the incidents, but ignored them.

“Since the father is in the army, we have issued a notice to the Karnataka and Kerala sub-area headquarters and have asked that the father be present for investigation. We are yet to get a reply,” police said.

The girl has been living away from her family for the last few weeks, police said and added that she is taking the help of an NGO to learn how to make a livelihood.

In another incident, alert public rescued a nine-year-old who was being molested in Rajagopal Nagar police limits on Monday night. Construction worker Manjunath (25) has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody, police said.

Late Monday evening, the child was playing outside her home. Manjunath, a neighbour, lured her to an isolated place with chocolate and allegedly began undressing her. A passersby noticed this and raised an alarm. Neighbours and locals rushed to the scene and thrashed Manjunath black and blue. Police rushed to the spot and arrested Manjunath.

In the third case, Kumaraswamy Layout police arrested an 18-year-old vulcanisation shop owner on charges of kidnapping and rape for eloping with a 16-year-old.

On November 1, the girl did not return from college. Following a complaint, police started investigating. Initially they thought it was a missing person’s case, but realised that the girl must have eloped with Rizwan, their neighbour, with whom she was allegedly having an affair. On November 4, the two were found near a bus stop in K S Layout. Rizwan has been booked under the POCSO Act, police said.
