Trash Heap Makes Cambridge Layout Residents Sick

They suffer from asthma and pneumonia as BBMP turns a deaf ear to their complaints

BENGALURU: Cambridge Layout: Residents of II Cross dread opening their windows and front doors. The heap of garbage behind the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) community hall not only emits an unbearable stench but has also sent a few to hospital with respiratory problems.

The area, attracting stray dogs, flies and bandicoots, has turned into a public urinal, making life hell for residents. "The heap encourages residents of other lanes to bring their trash and dump it here," said a resident living near the black spot.

Garbage dumped by BBMP's three-wheelers lies at the spot till it is carried away by trucks, said residents.

"I get frequent attacks of asthma because of the stench and had to spend a week in hospital with pneumonia," said a senior citizen. Her doctor has advised her to move out of the area if the problem persists.

When contacted, Jogupalya corporator Gautam Kumar denied BBMP autos dum garbage at the spot. He instead blamed some residents for littering the place. "If any BBMP auto is found dumping garbage there, I will take action," he said.

"Residents must refrain from dumping garbage on the roads. I cannot keep an eye on every violator," he added.
