FIR Against Wife Leaves Ananth Kumar Surprised

BANGALORE: The Bagalkot police have filed an FIR against Tejaswini, wife of Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers Ananth Kumar, and four others in connection with alleged financial irregularities in Basaveshwar Vidya Vardhak Sangh.

A former member of the Sangh had filed a complaint accusing Tejaswini and the others of irregularities in a financial deal under which the Trust took over Amrutha Institute of Technology in Bidadi. The institute was previously under the control of Ananth Kumar and his wife.

Ananth Kumar on Thursday said he was “surprised” at the filing of FIR against his wife. “The entire college, with its assets, was given to the Trust for management. I do not have any direct connection with the institution,” the minister told reporters.

He dubbed the entire matter as a non-issue.

Although the FIR was filed in July this year, Ananth Kumar said he had not seen it. “I do not know anything about the FIR. Even my wife does not know. There is no issue in this,” the Bangalore South MP said.

Ananth Kumar and his wife had run the institute for four years and had taken loans to manage it. The college was subsequently bought by the BVVS in a deal which is being questioned by the complainant.
