CHENNAI: Students pursuing a PhD in SRM University can now get two degrees, the second from Japan’s Shizuoka University.
According to Yasuhiro Hayakawa, Professor at Research Institute of Electronics at Shizuoka University, going by a memorandum of understanding signed between the universities, students from SRM will pursue their degree here for two years and then for three years in Japan, perform research in both the places and walk away with two degrees — one each from SRM and Shizuoka University.
The SRM-Shizuoka dual degree programme was launched on Wednesday during the inaugural function of the Third International Conference on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Mimura from Shizuoka University said, “The programme is open to limited students. Hence there is heavy competition and many applications reach us. This university has a slight edge because of the MoU signed and from the best will be selected from the applications received.” The conference, organised by the department of physics and nanotechnology, SRM University, will see participation from over 47 speakers delivering lectures.
