RACE COURSE ROAD:Organisers of an art event taking place at the end of the month plan to contribute 100 per cent of the proceeds to a relief fund for Nepal. This is the latest initiative of the Bengaluru-based art collective Maadhyam to combine art with a good cause. This latest show is called After The Rains and will be organised at the Taj West End between July 31 and August 4.
Excerpts from a conversation with Radhika Makhija who is the force behind the show.
On the synergy between art and social cause Maadhyam was initiated with the dual objective of promoting art and channelising the returns towards noble and charitable causes. The main objective is to be of some use to somebody in need. I like to share the proceeds with those who require help financially. Be they the economically challenged or cancer patients who can’t afford expensive treatment.
How Maadhyam will help Nepal
This time around, I was really distraught about the calamity that struck Nepal. I wanted to help and hence came the idea of giving hundred per cent of the profits from this show to the Nepal High Commission. Small efforts bring about big changes. However small the collections may be, they will be used for the welfare of those whose lives have been devastated by the natural calamity. My proceeds will be used to bring about a positive change to somebody’s life. I would be happy if I could cross a lakh and above.
Ensuring the amount reaches the right people
The amount will be deposited into the Nepalese High Commission's Relief Fund. I would be personally handing over the cheque or a draft. Such efforts open up our minds and hearts and definitely lead to our growth as a human beings. I feel satisfied when I make such efforts.
