BENGALURU: The Department of Pre-University Education has decided to suspend 12 lecturers of pre-university colleges, who  worked as invigilators for the March/April 2015 second PU exams.

Action was taken after students and parents protested recently against the state government, complaining that evaluation work was not done properly. Director of PUE Department Sushama Godbole conducted a meeting with officials on Tuesday and decided to suspend 12 lecturers for dereliction of duty during the exams.

According to information available from the officials, soon after the meeting, an order suspending four lecturers was issued. “It has been decided to suspend 12 lecturers who have worked as invigilators. For four, the order has been issued and for the rest, it will be issued on Wednesday,” an official from the department said.

Sources in the department said the four lecturers for whom suspension order has been issued are S G Koth (Political Science lecturer), PES PU College, Chikkodi, Anitha B Talawar (Physics lecturer) Government Boys’ PU College, Jamakhandi, Shashikala B (Kannada lecturer) St Anthony PU College Mysuru, Swetha Jawalekar (Chemistry lecturer) Vijaya PU College, Pandavapura Mandya district.

“The duty of the exam hall invigilators was to cross-verify the register number written by the students. In many cases, the students have written wrong register numbers and the invigilators too ignored this. This caused confusion during evaluation and declaration of results,” said an official.

During a recent press conference, state Primary and Secondary Education Minister Kimmane Rathnakar said that there were many cases where students made mistakes and the invigilators too did not bother to check. He had also assured parents and students that action would be taken against irresponsible invigilators.
