Painting the Vibrant Seasons of India

VITTAL MALLYA ROAD:Qualia, a group show featuring 15 established artists and five upcoming artists from across the country, premiered at Sublime Galleria last week.

One of the participating artists, Nadees Prabou lives in Pondicherry, India and was here to be a part of the show. He spoke to  City Express  about the beautiful energy and colours of Indian street life, that he loves capturing in his work. His interest in art was noticed by his family, while he was still in school; and in his third year of college, his water colours were exhibited for the first time.

Nadees says,  “My work  represents the daily activities of the people and I also capture the hot summers, the freezing  winters and the musical monsoon, the interplay of seasons in the busy streets of India.” He plays with shifting light and shadows in his work and says, “We  follow European painters in using  crimson, Prussian blue et al. In my early days, I used to do the same. Now I use raw umber and other Indian colours to get the feel of the muddy india and to capture the heat and the dust.”

He wanted to be an artist right from his childhood and his favourite artist is Alvaro Castagnet. He says,  “He is one of the world’s most respected watercolor artists and has been recognised with international honours for his art.”

But his main inspiration comes from  the life around him.

For the last 15 years, he has been active as an artist and also knows a bit about digital art and animation.

He has been exhibiting his work across India regularly and his  advice to passionate artists is , ‘‘Practise, practise and practise. These are the three aspects that will help you in reaching your goal successfully.”
