Give Unto Us Our Footpath: Techies

WHITEFIELD:Employees of ten leading companies on the tech corridor, operating from the Global Axis Business Park, held a campaign on Friday to clear the city’s footpath encroachment.

In this stretch, pedestrians are seriously inconvenienced because of footpath encroachment. They  often complain that crowding stalls leave little way on the footpath. Pedestrians are forced to step onto the roads which adds to the traffic menace.

C Prabhakar, director of Global Axis, said that they are having this campaign to raise awareness and they want officials to act on this immediately. “It is not a problem faced by the IT area alone, but also in other parts of the city.”

“People who come to eat at the food stalls spill onto the footpath and many park in No-parking stretches,” he said. Three women techies from Oracle complained that they were sexually harassed by these encroachers, he said.

To create a safe zone they have even sent letters to BBMP, Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL) and the police commissioner and they have not yet received any response. There is no support from the administration, he said.

“We eagerly await their support to clear the encroachments and ease the traffic here.”
