Passengers Escape Unhurt as Volvo Bus Catches Fire

BENGALURU: About 60 passengers of a speeding BMTC Volvo bus had a narrow escape when its engine caught fire at HAL Main Gate near Domlur on Monday evening.  Fire and emergency personnel and doused the fire. Traffic was thrown out of gear for a while around HAL.

A fire official said the Volvo bus was heading towards Majestic from Kadugodi at 6.30 pm. As the bus reached a bus stop, bystanders noticed fire in the engine and alerted the driver, who stopped the bus,  opened the doors so that the passengers could alight. Two fire tenders were pressed into the service. The reason for the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Chanakya, who alerted the fire department, said, “I noticed the fire in a pipe that connected to the engine and there was heavy smoke.”
