BJP Against Alliance, to Go to Raj Bhavan

BENGALURU: Having failed to woo JD(S) and independent members in its bid to to take over the reins of power in BBMP, the BJP leadership is set to take the agitation path against the proposed Congress-JD(S) alliance. The party has chalked out a five-day agitation starting Friday with a dharna opposite Town Hall.

Former deputy chief minister R Ashok, who announced the decision on Thursday, said that party corporators and legislators will take out a ‘Raj Bhavan Chalo’ march from the BJP office in Malleswaram on Saturday. He said they will submit a memorandum to Governor Vajubhai Vala urging him to advice Chief Minister Siddaramaiah against “subversion of democratic mandate in BBMP.”

Ashok, who chaired a meeting of corporators and MLAs, said protests will be held in all the Assembly constituencies for three days from Sunday against the “unholy” alliance.

“Congress is trying to come to power through the back door in BBMP by striking an unholy alliance with JD(S) and hijacking the independents to a resort in Kerala. We will take the issue to the people and teach a lesson to Chief Minister, who is desperate to retain his post,” Ashok alleged.

However, Ashok refrained from attacking the JD(S) as the BJP leadership is still nursing hopes of cobbling up an alliance with it to come to power in BBMP.
