BENGALURU: Three labourers died and nine were critically injured after a compound wall collapsed on their sheds following a heavy downpour on Sunday in Chokkanahalli near Hegdenagar. Fire and Emergency personnel rescued the injured and rushed them to nearby hospitals.

The incident took place at 9.30 pm when the families of the labourers were cooking food inside the sheds. Soon after the wall collapsed trapping the residents, locals called the Fire services.

It took the personnel over two hours to rescue the injured trapped under the rubble as the operations were hampered by continuous rain.

Sampigehalli inspector was injured while rescuing the victims.

One of the deceased has been identified as Dulal, a native of West Bengal. The labourers hail from Tamil Nadu, Assam and West Bengal.

A private builder who is constructing an apartment complex in the area had put up the temporary sheds for the labourers. Police have filed a case of negligence against the builder.

Houses Flooded

Many trees were uprooted in K S Layout, HBR Layout, and Kodigehalli.  Due to the incessant rain, traffic went haywire at several locations. Traffic jams were recorded at Palace Road, Yeshwantpur and Yelahanka. Traffic was blocked as a few vehicles broke down in the middle of the road and water was flowing onto the road. There were also traffic snarls on Hebbal Road, Yelahanka, KR Market and Majestic.
