While BJP Celebrates, Two Other Major Parties Sulk

Enthusiastic party workers of all the three parties had gathered in large numbers outside their party offices in Bengaluru.

BENGALURU: While the BJP office in the city saw celebrations on Tuesday after its emphatic win in the BBMP polls, the offices of the other two parties — Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) — wore a deserted look. The saffron party won 100 of the 198 wards in BBMP.

Enthusiastic party workers of all the three parties had gathered in large numbers outside their party offices in the city since Tuesday morning. However, with a BJP win almost certain by noon, the number of people outside the party’s state office in Malleswaram swelled. In contrast, the offices of the other parties were almost empty.

BJP supporters were seen raising slogans in favour of the party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Former deputy chief minister R Ashok, who addressed the media, described the party’s win as ‘historic.’

At the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee office the disappointment over the loss was clearly visible. Except for a few party workers and police personnel, the premises were empty. Things were no different at the JD(S) office.
