Centre to Screen Newborns

BENGALURU: Health Minister U T Khader on Saturday announced compulsory blood screening for newborns to detect genetic disorders.

After the inauguration of a centre at CV Raman Nagar General Hospital where a screening equipment worth Rs 3 crore was installed, he said such facility was earlier available only in private diagnostic centres.

Hospitals in districts can send samples here through proper courier channels for screening. After the test, the reports will be sent back to the respective hospitals, he added.
